Agartala, Dec 28 (FD) Another legislator of the state assembly, Diba Chandra Hrangkhwal, who won from the Karamcharra assembly constituency under the Dhalai district on BJP ticket in 2018 elections, submitted his resignation to the assembly secretary citing personal grounds.
The ruling BJP MLA is the eighth legislator from the BJP, who tendered his resignation and is likely to join the grand old Congress party, where he earlier enjoyed the portfolio of the President of the state unit.
Talking to the media, he said, “I have resigned on personal ground. I am a politician and tried my best to serve people of the state remaining in BJP, but failed. I would continue to serve people”.
When asked if he would join the opposition Congress, Hrankhawl said, “Obviously I would join a party, but I am yet to make up my mind”.
He was flanked by former BJP MLA, Asish kumar Saha, who is now a Congress leader and other Congress leaders during resignation to the assembly Secretary. Assembly speaker, Ratan Chakraborty is now camping outside the state for treatment.
Hrankhawl, a close confidante of the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and critic of the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. He is one of many rebel MLAs in the party, who revolted to oust Deb from the helm of affairs.
BJP spokesperson, Subrata Chakraborty termed him as one of the most inefficient lawmakers in the state assembly.
“He is the most inefficient Lawmaker in the assembly. His resignation will have hardly any impact in the party and in the rank and files”, Chakraborty told reporters.
President of the state unit of BJP, Rajib Bhattacharya said, “He is a traitor and betrayed the party and people of the state. Party will not face any kind of loss for his resignation.
The BJP-IPFT alliance has 39 MLAs in the 60-member assembly. The opposition CPI-M has 15 MLAs and congress has one. FD PD JK
